Thiocodin syrup 100 ml
Thiocodin syrup 100 ml is a medicinal product in the form of syrup used to treat troublesome cough that is not accompanied by expectoration of secretions.
Dose Thiocodin syrup
Use of Thiocodin syrup in adults and children over 12 years of age: 10 ml of syrup (1 scoop) three times a day, no more often than every 4 to 6 hours. Do not use doses higher than recommended. The medicinal product comes with a measuring cup. Thiocodin should not be used in children under 12 years of age. Thiocodin syrup should be taken orally, with meals. In order to obtain the desired effectiveness of the medicinal product, you should drink an appropriate amount of fluids during the day (at least 2 liters).
Composition
The active substances of the drug are codeine phosphate hemihydrate (Codeini phosphas hemihydricus) and sulfoguaiacol (Sulfogaiacolum).
10 ml of syrup contains 15 mg of codeine phosphate hemihydrate and 300 mg of sulfoguaiacol.
Excipients: sucrose, glycerol, sodium benzoate, strawberry flavor 502301T, citric acid monohydrate, propyl parahydroxybenzoate, purified water.
Dosage
Always use this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as directed by your doctor or pharmacist. If in doubt, ask your doctor or pharmacist. Adults and children aged 12 to 18 years: orally, during meals, 1 measuring cup (10 ml of syrup) three times a day , no more often than every 4 to 6 hours.
It is not recommended to use doses higher than recommended. In order to obtain the desired effectiveness of the product, you should drink an appropriate amount of fluids during the day (at least 2 liters). Thiocodin is not recommended for use in children aged 12 to 18 years with respiratory disorders .
Contraindications
When should you not use Thiocodin:
- if you are allergic to codeine phosphate hemihydrate, sulfoguaiacol or any of the other ingredients of this medicine,
- if the patient has bronchial asthma or respiratory failure,
- if the patient is in a coma,
- if you have cystic fibrosis,
- if you have bronchiectasis,
- if you are addicted to alcohol,
- if you are addicted to opioids,
- if you are known to metabolize codeine to morphine very rapidly,
- if the patient is coughing up secretions,
- if you are currently taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) or have used such medicines in the last 14 days.
Side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. nausea and vomiting, constipation, dizziness, sedation.
- allergic reactions (itching, hives, rash, skin eczema),
- sudden mood changes (excessive joy or sadness),
- breathing disorders, bronchospasm,
- heart palpitations, drop in blood pressure and fainting,
- drowsiness, headaches,
- miosis, urinary retention,
- decreased appetite, vision and hearing disorders,
- excessive sweating,
- hallucinations (perception of non-existent objects),
- acute abdominal pain (mainly applies to patients after gallbladder removal), irritation of the gastrointestinal mucosa, the symptoms of which may include, among others: stomach pain (after taking large doses of the drug).
